About Therapy & ISTDP

Therapy for meaningful change

We are wired for connections, emotions and relationships. Attachment plays an important role in our emotional development, and safe, supportive relationships are fundamental to psychological wellbeing.

From an early age, we learn ways of adapting to our environment. When expressing emotions feels unsafe or overwhelming, we may learn to suppress feelings or avoid difficult emotional experiences. These responses can initially help us cope, but over time they can become unconscious patterns that affect how we feel, think and relate to others.

In adult life these patterns may contribute to anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, emotional distress, low self esteem and self- defeating behaviors. Psychotherapy can help you to understand these patterns, process difficult emotions and overcome the underlying barriers that keep you feeling stuck.

Attachment- Based ISTDP

Attachment-Based ISTDP integrates attachment theory, neuroscience and experiential emotion- focused psychotherapy. It aims to identify and resolve

unconscious emotional conflicts that can contribute to psychological symptoms and difficulties in relationships.

Through therapy, you can develop a deeper emotional understanding of your buried emotional experiences, change unhelpful patterns and build healthier ways of regulating emotions. This can support greater emotional wellbeing, improved relationships and meaningful, lasting change.

Focused Psychotherapy

ISTDP therapy provides a focused and active approach to access unconscious processes, perceptions, beliefs, life events and complex feelings linked to these experiences. Rather than relying on intellectual understanding alone, we work directly with emotional and somatic experiences to help uncover and work through the underlying causes of distress.

The aim is to alleviate self-defeating behaviors linked to unconscious conflicts and to develop greater emotional freedom, and a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
